1 John 3:16-18

Helps us to understand what love is. It is shown by the example of Jesus laying down his life for us. God has given us so much we are called to give of our gifts - financially, practically and spiritually.

Proverbs 11:24-25

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more;
    another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

A generous person will prosper;
    whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

1 Timothy 6:17-19

Tells us that the rich should not be arrogant or put their hope in their wealth. Rather they should hope and be thankful in God and his goodness. they should be rich in good deeds, generous and willing to share which will bring them joy now and a firm foundation for the age to come.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Matthew 6:19-21

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Luke 21:1-4

Shares the story of Jesus observing people giving at the temple. He praises the small but sacrificial amount of the widow above the large gifts of the rich.

God looks at the heart of giving not the size of giving.
